Adam Smith joined us in December of 2022. Adam is a Licensed Professional Counselor from Richmond, Virginia. He completed his Masters in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling at Virginia Commonwealth University in 2018. Adam has lived all over the Richmond Metropolitan area and takes pride in being able to provide treatment for his community. Adam provides a non-judgmental, authentic, and (sometimes) humorous setting for individuals to access connection and safety in treatment to explore their true concerns. He also provides EMDR.

Adam is trained in EMDR as well as more traditional therapeutic methods such as CBT, DBT, and Person Centered approaches

Adam works with teenagers and adults using compassion-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), relational psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and strengths-based approaches for therapeutic treatment.

Adam has specialized training in motivational interviewing (MI) and taught VCU dentistry students MI skills. Has completed additional post graduate training in Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy.

The first session is always oriented towards the client in the room and what goals, values, hopes, and expectations they have for treatment. Additionally, you can expect a dose of humor as we explore what therapy would look like with me and whether that is the best possible fit for you or not. The first session taking with me takes seriously the person sitting in the room for treatment.
